How It Works:

Slides are first scanned with an air cleaning process and in rare instances we may use an anti-static cleaning cloth to remove finger prints. Lint, dust and scratches are common, however, on stored slides and unless they can be removed with the air cleaning process, we do not remove these imperfections as part of the capture process. 35mm slide scans are approximately 1250×1000 pixels in size, which can produce print sizes between 12x18 and 11x17. Upgrade options with higher resolution scans are available upon request. A size and transparency identification guide is located at the bottom of this page.

Vintage slide format, ready for professional slide scanning at Linhoff Photo

Dust, lint, and light scratches are common on stored slides — we use an air cleaning process before scanning. Heavily damaged slides can often still be digitized and restored.

How to prepare your slides for scanning:

Your digital files will be organized the same way your physical files are!

  • If you bring in your slides in labeled envelopes or boxes, we will label the digital folder the same way.
  • If you have carousels and they are marked, we will keep them in numerical or chronological order. There's no charge for this- in fact, it makes it easier on us, too!
  • We understand the process may be overwhelming. Come as you are, bring your slides as-is, and we'll work with you to make sure you know what to expect from your digital files.
  • After your slides are digitized, we can deliver your files via email (using WeTransfer) or load them onto a USB/hard drive.
